Horizon Europe: Accelerated multi‑physical and virtual testing for battery aging, reliability, and safety evaluation (Batt4EU Partnership)

Horizon Europe

The main objective of this call is to reduce the costs and development time of battery systems, particularly for electric vehicles, through innovative testing strategies that combine physical and virtual methods.
Projects should deliver faster validation cycles by accurately simulating the multiphysics stresses (thermal, electrical, mechanical, etc.) that affect aging, failure modes, reliability, and safety of cells and modules. The approach is intended to be integrated and harmonized, in order to establish standard performance indicators for degradation and safety. Proposals are expected to build on existing collaborations with other initiatives under the Batt4EU partnership, to maximize synergies (e.g., information sharing, use of data on state of health and remaining useful life). Furthermore, applicants should include exploitation, scaling-up, and commercialization plans, notably through feasibility studies or a business plan, and consider additional sources of funding (e.g., Innovation Fund). This initiative aims to strengthen European technological autonomy in the battery sector, improve vehicle safety, and accelerate the market deployment of key innovations.
